Branding Tips for Small Businesses

Develop your brand bible, including business name, logo, and color scheme.

How to create your brand

There’s more to creating a brand than just creating a cool logo. Your brand goes far beyond that and should communicate who your business is and what your business does. The best part is, you don’t need a big budget to create a big impact. Here are 5 branding tips for small businesses:

  1. Provide your purpose. What is the purpose of your business/brand? Why did you create it, what’s the backstory?
  2. Figure out your audience. Who will be buying your services? Where do they live? What are their needs and wants? What are their limitations?
  3. Define your features and benefits. Define the unique values and benefits of your business from a customer’s perspective.
  4. Determine your voice. If your brand was a person, what would it sound like if you were having a conversation with it? How would that resonate with your customers?
  5. Create a logo and style guide. When you first decided to start your business, you most likely had an idea for a logo, but here is where you refine it and adjust it to match the purpose, the target audience, the features and benefits, and the personality of your business.
Why Your Brand is Important

Your brand is the identity of your business. It’s how customers will recognize your business so you will want to make sure that it is something memorable and in line with the services you are offering.

What is a Brand Bible?

Another term for brand bible is brand guide. This is where all the things that make your brand special are outlined. Things typically included in a brand bible are:

  • Your business’s history, mission, and value statements
  • Your business’s logo and the rules around how the logo should be used and portrayed
  • The font that your business will use as part of its identity
  • The colors that are used specifically in your logo and how to use those colors in the company’s marketing materials
  • Any other information as to how your brand should look and be perceived
Where to Use Your Branding

Quick answer: everywhere!

  • Emails
  • Business cards
  • Vehicle wraps
  • Your business website
  • Social media channels

Any communication your business has with the public or customers should be covered in your logo, imagery, and tone of your brand.
