“There ain’t nothin’ to it but to do it, so let’s get into it!” is Zach Farmer’s catch phrase at the beginning of each video on YouTube. Although Zach has a full-time job and a busy family life with three kids, he still finds time to help those in need of some lawn assistance.

Zach Farmer’s Beginning

Growing up on a farm, Zach Farmer is no stranger to hard work. From an early age, he was taught how to work with his hands, and it fueled his passion for the outdoors. “I love learning new techniques of hunting and fishing, and love being able to pass it on to others.”

Zach started mowing lawns in high school for a couple of companies and continued working for those companies when he attended college at the University of Tennessee at Martin. At one time, Zach did start his own small lawn service. “I loved the before and after to my work,” Zach says. “It was relaxing to me.”

Zach studied how to be a park ranger at college, and after he graduated in 2017, he started working for the city. Today, Zach continues to work full time for the city and has added a new passion and side hustle: recording YouTube videos while he helps his community by doing yard work for those in need.

What Inspired Zach Farmer’s 731Zach YouTube Channel

Zach Farmer started out making videos about the outdoors. “I was making poor outdoors content and had a buddy making mowing videos. I saw how well his content was doing even with his 200 subscribers. I tried a small video just mowing grass, and I got like 15 subscribers, and I thought that was a lot!”

Zach continued to learn to edit videos and to produce better quality content. He also figured out what people like and what they would like to watch. While Zach has been busy building his audience and perfecting his content, Zach says his buddy who originally inspired him now has “a million subscribers and is one of the biggest YouTube mowing channels.” Since Zach started his channel, he too has climbed in popularity with 5.75K subscribers, which is no small feat.

Challenges and Rewards

Although 731Zach started out as a channel to provide outdoor content and how-to landscaping videos, it has evolved into a channel that shows how a landscape enthusiast gives back to his community. Keeping the channel growing has brought challenges and rewards.

Zach said, “Some of my biggest challenges are not having the equipment to do some of the things people need help with, or not being able to always continue to help.” Although the videos show cool tools, when Zach needs larger equipment, he ends up calling in a favor or two. Even when Zach is unable to help with bigger jobs like removing large trees, he’s so well-connected to other contractors that he usually knows someone who could help.

Helping others with their landscape needs is hard work and can be physically exhausting, but Zach says, “Being able to provide something for people that can’t always give something back is definitely the most rewarding work.” Even though the people he works with are usually unable to pay Zach for his services with money, Zach believes their gratitude and seeing the transformation is reward in itself.

“I try to help anyone that needs it. I try and do as much as I can with the equipment and resources I have. Taking care of overgrown lawns is the main thing, but I clean out full gutters and excessive leaf litter also. My work is meant to take a little burden off the shoulders of the people that live in these homes, if only for a short period.”
